Based on our Watershed Reports, several key national themes have emerged:
- Canadian watersheds face a series of significant threats, which left unchecked will jeopardize the health of water resources that provide invaluable wealth across the country.
- Where the health of watersheds can confidently be determined based on available data, many fall below the threshold of “good” condition; None of the 25 assessed watersheds are in “very good” health.
- There is a pronounced lack of available and accessible data on the health of the watersheds that we have tried to assess. The need for consistent monitoring is highlighted by the fact that the Yukon and Newfoundland and Labrador watersheds had scores for the benthic invertebrate indicator when initially released in 2017 but are now data deficient.
